Garry Shandling died as a result of pulmonary thrombosis according to his autopsy report.

The legendary comedian was killed when a blood clot traveled from his leg to his lung, and the cause of death has been listed as both ‘natural’ and an ‘accident.’

He also had an enlarged heart. 

Shandling, who passed away at the age of 66, had Xanax, oxycodone and hydrocodone in his system as well at the time of his death according to the report.

Two days after Shandling’s unexpected death last March, his doctor has refused to sign the death certificate which prompted the coroner’s office to investigate.

The physician ‘repeatedly refused’ to sign the document because he believed that Shandling, who had not been examined by the doctor for more than a year, was in fine health.

Shandling’s doctor also dismissed claims at the time that he was killed as a result of a heart attack, and said he has no idea why or how the patient died.

That is why the Los Angeles County Coroner was called on to determine the cause of death. 

Investigators took blood work from the Emergency Room at St John’s Health Center in Santa Monica where Shandling was pronounced dead and subpoenaed records from the doctor at the time. 

The comedian had been experiencing shortness of breath and aches the afternoon before his death so he called over a doctor friend who gave him a check up and told him that if he was still in pain the following day he should get to a hospital.
