Program Learning Objectives
Graduates of the Liberal Arts and Engineering Studies program obtain a solid basis in engineering and scientific ideas, in addition to a cultural appreciation that helps them in careers requiring vital levels of technical and cultural fluency. To support these objectives, the primary learning goals are to:
1. Suppose critically and creatively in the strategy of solving techno-social problems considering philosophical, aesthetic and expressive concerns.
2. Talk effectively by way of a variety of media in various, multicultural perspectives and facilitate communication between technical and non-technical collaborators.
3. Use arithmetic, science, and engineering rules to supply options to problems within the pupil’s Liberal Arts and Engineering concentrations.
4. Perform effectively as a member of interdisciplinary or international teams, formulating sustainable options to issues on the intersection of know-how and society.
5. Demonstrate ethical and professional duties related to the creation, use and integration of know-how.

Diploma Requirements and Curriculum
In addition to the program requirements listed on this web page, college students must also fulfill requirements outlined in more detail within the Minimum Necessities for Graduation part of this catalog, together with:
– 60 units of higher-division programs
– 2.0 GPA
– Graduation Writing Requirement (GWR)
– U.S. Cultural Pluralism (USCP)
Note: No Major, Support or Focus courses could also be selected as credit score/no credit.
Required in Major or Support; also satisfies Basic Education (GE) requirement.
If a Normal Schooling (GE) course is used to fulfill a major or Help requirement, additional items of Free Electives could also be required to finish the whole items required for the diploma.
Concentrations
LAES students must choose one concentration from Engineering and one from Liberal Arts. Students might select to comply with an individualized course of study in Engineering or/and in the Liberal Arts, constructed in session with LAES advisors.

Individualized Course of Research in Engineering
Consists of 34 items of an advisor accepted built-in course of study from programs provided within the College of Engineering designed to satisfy the LAES learning objectives, with at least 12 of the models at the higher-division stage. Programs must be drawn from at least two engineering disciplines.

Individualized Course of Research within the Liberal Arts
Consists of 24 items of an advisor approved integrated course of research from programs provided in the School of Liberal Arts designed to meet the LAES studying aims, with at least 12 of the items on the upper-division level.
College students could full a minor program chosen from pre-authorized minors. These minors embrace any minor provided by the College of Liberal Arts, in addition to interdisciplinary, cross-school minors wherein college students complete a minimal of half of the models within the Faculty of Liberal Arts (e.g., Indigenous Studies in Pure Sources & the Setting; Sustainable Environments).
Common Training (GE) Necessities
– 72 models required, 16 of which are specified in Main and/or Assist.
– If any of the remaining fifty six models is used to satisfy a significant or Support requirement, further models of Free Electives may be wanted to finish the overall units required for the degree.

A grade of C- or better is required in a single course in each of the following GE Areas: A1 (Oral Communication), A2 (Written Communication), A3 (Essential Pondering), and B4 (Arithmetic/Quantitative Reasoning).
