As of 2019, Autodesk holds the exclusive worldwide right to use the Autodesk name. The name Autodesk is protected by trademark, however, Autodesk does not exercise control over Autodesk owned licenses or Autodesk trademarks by its licensees, including AutoCAD. The name Autodesk came from merging Autodesk, Inc. and the Dennis R. Kurtz company. The predecessor to AutoCAD was the 1982 TurboCAD program, developed by Dennis R. Kurtz and Autodesk.

TurboCAD was one of the first commercial CAD programs for personal computers. The name TurboCAD was used by Autodesk from 1982 to 1990 to describe this then-new product.

AutoDesk released AutoCAD in 1982, for which the first manual was published in May 1983. TurboCAD was first available to the public as a free-of-charge download in 1983.

A novel numerical scheme, called inertial entropy, is developed to locate minima, saddle points, and barriers on the free energy landscape of a biomolecule. The present approach performs a molecular dynamics simulation in a Cartesian coordinate system, and includes the inertial term into the equations of motion to ensure the continuous conservation of the kinetic energy. This inertial dynamics makes the dynamical system thermodynamically conservative, and allows the system to relax its configuration in a much shorter time scale. A modified Newton-Raphson algorithm is used to locate the saddle points and barriers, and we show that, with a small number of molecular dynamics runs, the obtained free energy landscape well represents the local free energy barrier between minima. To demonstrate the present method, the free energy landscape of an alpha-helical bundle protein is determined. Results from this work show that the new approach is very efficient in determining the free energy landscape of a biomolecule in a short simulation time.Cancer incidence among Finnish men living in Uusimaa, Eastern Finland, 1959-1983.
