The.DWG file format is used for storing 2D drawings and diagrams in AutoCAD. In version 2010, the.DWG file format supports all the basic operations for editing 2D and 3D drawings and 3D models and supports many object types. It is a subset of the AutoCAD Drawing (.dwg) and portable network graphics (.png) file formats, and can be displayed using AutoCAD’s native DXF 2D and 3D features or in GIS-based applications such as ArcGIS (of the software products by ESRI).
