How Obama Escalated Israel’s Nuclear Arsenal

Last week, President Trump was informed of the news that the prime minister of Israel had decided to upgrade Israel’s nuclear capabilities. This decision came after the White House revealed that the United States would be moving the Jewish state’s embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. Rather than telling Netanyahu to take his nuclear program seriously, the US president preferred to appoint a peace negotiator who had been involved in a PR campaign of lies and deceit about Iran.

The New York Times revealed that during the Obama administration, the United States increased aid to Israel and took away from Iran. The White House had some good reasons to do so: Iran had violated United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231, as the resolution demanded it refrain from “any activity related to the development of nuclear weapons” and allow international inspectors into the country. At the time the Resolution was passed in 2015, it was agreed that if Iran violated it, the International Atomic Energy Agency would provide “enhanced monitoring”.

The point of the resolution is to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. But instead of following the resolution, the IAEA’s found no evidence that the country was working on nuclear weapons. The resolution was violated, which was something even Iran could understand. Nevertheless, the United States chose to ignore the resolution, and make the situation worse. The New York Times also revealed that the Obama administration removed sanctions from Iran. This meant that oil companies were free to sell billions of dollars of Iranian oil, and the proceeds went directly to the coffers of the Iranian treasury.
