24th Battalion, Canadian Brigade

The 24th Battalion was an infantry battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. It was authorized on 2 September 1915 and disbanded on 31 August 1920.

History

The 24th Battalion was authorized on 2 September 1915 and embarked for Great Britain on 8 June 1916. It was redesignated as the 24th Battalion, CEF on 4 July 1917. On 4 April 1918, its battalion headquarters was relieved from the 22nd Reserve Battalion, CEF. The battalion was disbanded on 31 August 1920.

The 24th Battalion had three Officers Commanding:

Lt.-Col. A.J. Broc (17 September 1916 to 31 July 1918)
Lt.-Col. G.L. O’Brien (1 August 1918 to 27 July 1919)
Lt.-Col. H.D. Osgood (29 July 1919 to 30 August 1920)

The 24th Battalion recruited in Alberta and British Columbia and was mobilized at Victoria, British Columbia.
