AutoCAD costs $3,990 for the Standard version, $5,240 for the Professional version and $6,000 for the Architectural version. Additionally, a one-time “Authorized User” (AU) registration fee of $3,600 applies. The AU license is automatically extended for each new company employee who uses AutoCAD. AutoCAD is available as a free download for Windows XP and later operating systems. For Windows Vista and Windows 7, the current release of AutoCAD does not come with the operating system, so a separate version is required, costing around $30 for a license for the same as the full version.

Versions
The free AutoCAD 16.0 for Windows is a fully functional product. As of AutoCAD 2016, the commercial AutoCAD (subscription) version is named AutoCAD LT for Windows and features cloud-based integration.

AutoCAD X
AutoCAD X is a new AutoCAD release that was first released in January 2012 as a developer preview, and later made generally available in November 2012. The new release has been designed from the ground up for cloud computing environments. The X release has been described by Autodesk as the “most significant release since AutoCAD 2004.”
