IN THE EARLY DAYS of Divinity: Original Sin 2, we considered having a theater mode like the one that would eventually be implemented in Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition (D:OSe), which plays a central role in the story, but was never implemented in the first Divinity: Original Sin.
This time, we decided to go with a completely different idea. We actually made something that we were sure to have fun playing, like the Theater Mode from the Elder Scrolls games, and also got a feel of how to work on our game (like what we can do, what kind of editor we need, and some more).
This new idea was not an exactly like a theater mode, but still a kind of mode that would be easy to play and equally as fun. It really helps a lot when you’re playing a game as a spectator too, because it provides a context for what’s happening on the game screen, and you can still get the fun of watching someone else play the game, but in a new dimension.
So… Who’s watching you?
From the soundtrack to the artwork, to the scripting, to the gameplay system.
The whole process of making a game is complicated and time consuming. But the D:OSe team was more than prepared to face this challenge, and has succeeded in providing a unique experience to our players.
That’s right, the artworks were created by Mielkie, a member of our team who was born in 1994, and was playing the Divinity games since they first appeared.
He has about 20 years of game development experience, including working in RPG games, and he provided the perfect artistic touch to the game. We consider this to be his first true gaming experience as an artist.
From the way the game was designed to the implementation of the artworks, Mielkie was able to bring his unique and playful style to the game.
Although this sounds like an excuse, you should know that Mielkie’s artworks actually leave a very strong impression on the game’s design.

While life as always fun, we have a wealth of new content ready to download!
We have added many new servers and the servers available have been expanded over two increments. These changes will include a new AI, new maps, new room create, lots of UI changes and the long awaited ATK and ATK improvements.
Our alpha and beta clients have not seen these changes yet, and in order for them to reflect on the server, a server restart is needed. While this is a vital step to ensure the smooth functioning of the servers, it causes significant downtime. A downtime schedule will be included on each update.
We are also working on the level design and enemy movements, but want to get these out once we have full functionality in the server. The final design will likely be heavy on destructible environments.
If you have a subscription on the test servers you can continue to use that subscription on the “v1” relased servers. Alpha and beta players will not be able to host servers and we do not have plans to add those people back into the game (though if you make one they would be happy to host a jump/fallback server).
Having said that, the new fixes that are being made to the game are designed to be available worldwide. The servers will be made available for all to play, if they live nearby. Given the disparity in timezones, some players may see the servers at different times.
