  Microsoft is releasing today a VXML 4.2 codec for IE5/IE6 which implements the remote procedure invocation RFC 3092.

  The released codec is a modified version of the open source XSiteMap decoding tools, which was previously proposed by a researcher/developer on the MS Vulnerability disclosure mail list.

  The simple description of the codec says that

  “The VXML 4.2 codec complies with the specification RFC 3092 for Remote Procedure Calls in VXML pages.”

  The RFC is defined on the official site of W3 Consortium as

  “The Remote Procedure Call (RPC) protocol is a mechanism for performing a transaction from a client of a markup language (such as HTML) document to a server application on another computer system. It is specified in the Extensible Markup Language (XML) 1.0 specification as a method for embedding function calls between markup language documents. This specification was written by IBM, AT&T, Netscape, Microsoft, and the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).”

  This camera version of VXML, called VXML 4.2, is quite new. It will appear only in MS Internet Explorer 5.1 and higher versions.

  “The release of this version of the codec in IE 5.1 is part of Microsoft’s ongoing commitment to give customers a great Microsoft experience. Users of Microsoft-based servers and clients that access and process XSiteMap RPC requests will benefit from this release” said Sebastien Perez, a Microsoft Specialist on Vulnerability Disclosure MS mail.
