  I’ve been waiting to hear from you about the events in San Diego and
  wanted to share my observations. Enron held the meeting at the Hyatt
  where I was working, but everyone else from the company and most of the
  S.D. team went to the Palmer House. The Palmer House was much better
  for the talks because the meeting room was larger and more sophisticated
  than the Hyatt. Both the Palmer and the Hyatt were good spots for
  business, but Hyatt has too much of a Holiday Inn feel. The Hyatt made
  me, as a non-native, feel a little out of place, but that’s only if I
  could get a little annoyed that I wasn’t being given the suite. The
  Hyatt didn’t help matters by making me wait in a very long line to get
  in the hotel. The Palmer House was much more upscale and the service
  was very good. For the Palmer, the Hyatt’s suite would’ve been perfect
  for the evening. The Hyatt’s suite had a few oddities that were pretty
  irritating. One of them was the cork walls. There was a chair and
  table but no other place to sit. As we entered the dining room, the
  group was introduced to each other. There were only 12 people, but after
  a few seconds we were split up into three tables. Everyone had lots of
  time to talk to each other, but it was tough to listen to what everyone
  was saying, so you had to have drinks for communication. I’m not sure
  if the Hyatt doesn’t normally do this, but I don’t like being split up
  this way.

  Overall, the Hyatt was an adequate site for the purposes of the
  meeting. The people I met at the event were nice and responsive, but I
  wouldn’t hesitate to go to the Palmer because of the beautiful setting
  and how much more exclusive it was. The setting might also make you
  feel more like a dignitary than you did at the Hyatt. I couldn’t tell
  if the noise level was an issue, but it is a Hyatt first with pretty
  high volume from the staff. I didn’t notice any peculiar smells,
  unlike the Hyatt.
