The MyMedia toolkit was developed to be an extensible software framework for multimedia recommendation, incorporating cutting edge recommender algorithms and metadata enrichment. This C# developed research project makes it easier to study, develop and deploy personalization technology.
Users and implementers of multimedia today face a common problem: how to deal with the “crisis of choice” that exists when very many different forms of multimedia are presented to users. In such circumstances search is not a complete solution, recommendation can improve the user experience. However there are few recommender system solutions that are sufficiently versatile.
The MyMedia software toolkit is the outcome of an international collaboration to develop an extensible software framework for multimedia recommendation, incorporating cutting edge recommender algorithms, metadata enrichment, and software design. It will be tested in field trials under realistic conditions while being made available to the research community. This software provides a structured approach to personalization, as well as reusable reference implementations of popular recommendation and enrichment algorithms.

MyMedia [ a research software toolkit for personalization of multimedia information based on user metadata attributes and user behaviour. MyMedia incorporates a library of recommender algorithms that support an extensible back end, based on a customised C# infrastructure. MyMedia Framework Technical Overview:
MyMedia uses a client-server model based on web-services. In this model, the client communicates with the back-end and stores its own user profile and item metadata. The back-end manages the recommendation task and associates the recommendations with the client user profile. A collection of user profiles is used to build up a ‘profile graph’ that is used to target recommendations. The profile graph is used to construct a ‘recommender graph’ that generates recommendations. Recommendations are written to the client object using SOAP messaging and a templated layout and pushed to the client asynchronously.
Data can be presented in a variety of forms, including a list of recommendations, recommender summary page, user content graph, overlays and spreadsheets to accompany multimedia output. MyMedia can import metadata and take care of the transformation from the physical content format to the tag format, while at the same time performing the requisite tasks for multimedia recommendations. MyMedia also provides a framework for generation of metadata and associated data.

MyMedia has been designed to support a range of metadata models from individual to shared and federated. Any information describing a user can be captured and made available to a recommender service. User Metadata Creation:
If the user metadata is not already provided by a provider service, MyMedia includes an interface for creation of metadata via a web-based interface. Creation or update of metadata is performed by calling a single MyMedia::Metadata service.
Using MyMedia in Predictive Applications:

MyMedia framework is a client-server based toolkit that supports creation and deployment of personalization technology. It provides a common infrastructure on which the API can be instantiated and modified.

The current state of MyMedia is presented in the slides below. The central idea is that different algorithms and metadata enrichments can be chained in a pipeline to allow the creation of algorithms for specific, realistic scenarios.
