The Sounder application was designed to be a small console program that can be invoked to play a .wav file from the command line. As compiled, it will only play the first 2 seconds of the .wav and then exit, but thats tweakable in the source. It was written simply to provide audible alerts from windows batch files.

The Sounder utility plays the audio of an.wav file, or sound file, and plays it over the standard audio device. You can specify the channel (1 = mono, 2 = stereo) and sample rate (44.1K is a popular speed). It plays the audio to the end, but if you want to go back to the beginning of the sound, just press Escape when it has played for a certain amount of time.

Sounder provides the ability to extract the noise embedded in a.wav file to the windows command-line. By loading the.wav files into a batch file, it is possible to execute a batch file at a specified interval, or start it when it receives a specified sound, which can be the sound of incoming e-mails, SMS, or the sound of a doorbell.
