TOKYO, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) — For effective implementation of a new method for paying in the East Asian nation, the National Tax Authority in Japan has launched a prototype for paying e-money through a bank account.

The prototype is an e-commerce (E-commerce) system that can deposit and withdraw money into or from a bank account.

The prototype has been mainly tested by the Finance Ministry in preparation for the new method to be implemented for paying taxes and insurance premiums through a bank account.

“From April 2020, tax and insurance payments will be made through the e-commerce system for the first time,” an official from the National Tax Authority said.

The prototype has been developed by three big banks that are to partner with the National Tax Authority in the implementation. It is expected that all tax and insurance payments will be completed via the system.

“In fiscal 2019, tax collection was about 600 trillion yen (53 billion U.S. dollars) and insurance collection about 4 trillion yen. We also want to implement a new system for collecting taxes,” said Hideki Aoki, head of the Finance Ministry’s Tax Bureau.
