We are all dependent on technology technology in some capacity. It is easy to become dependent on this technology, but we don’t realize how much. We text our friends, blog, and ‘Facebook’ each other (and even create a new verb). When I talk to college students, it is surprising how often they call their parents. Many college students said they called their parents every day. Others said they called their parents, usually their mom, between each & every class. Students complained about missing practices or meetings without technology. It seems that their schedules change each day and this is how they are kept informed.

Again, this is obvious. The technological advances have not had a positive impact on the human family. This can be seen in similar or worse levels for poverty, literacy, living conditions, overall conditions, and the general condition of all people on the planet. Yes, certain parts of the population are benefitting but we see the development of a “digital gap” in which middle classes are disappearing and upper classes continue to grow. This is in large part due technology which concentrates more power in favor of those at high levels. This is a classic warning sign that trouble is coming, if you pay attention.

Service Level Agreements are suitable for many companies, giving them a fixed cost for enough IT service to efficiently run their business. The best office computer part is that Service Level Agreements cost a fraction of a full time IT employee. This option is worth exploring. Unless technology is your core service or product, your needs may best be served by an independent IT firm and a good Service Level Agreement.

In our branding strategy, it is important to target high school students. High School girls seem to have a wider texting net than do boys. High School girls seem to have a higher need to stay connected with their friends. This has led to all the dangers associated with texting. Texting girls while driving can be dangerous. They take their hands of the wheel and they take their eyes off the road.

The downside of technology is the problems it can create for schools. Things like laptop plans have many pros, but there are also many cons. The school will shut down if the internet stops working. Class plans have to be changed and homework might not be able to be turned in if something is working properly. If assignments are printed and hand-signed, students have fewer excuses for not turning them in on time. If an assignment is to be submitted online, the teacher will need to extend the due date for multiple students if the website does not work or the student’s computer games for kids has problems.

There are certain groups that are benefiting but we also see the beginnings a “digital split” where the middle classes are shrinking and the upper and below-classes continue to rise. This is largely due to technology which consolidates more power into those at the top. This has always been a classic harbinger of trouble, for those that care to pay attention.
