He wore his hair long, and he rolled his jeans up to expose a hairy, muscular thigh.<\/p>\n

And he wasn\u2019t afraid to talk about it.<\/p>\n

Steve Buskie was a motorcycle activist.<\/p>\n

When he died, he left behind a message. The message was a simple one, but it echoed through the halls of The Abbotsford Sikh Society.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese guys have the right to ride their motorcycles,\u201d Steve said in the months before his death. \u201cSo why don\u2019t we do the same thing?\u201d<\/p>\n

That was the message that Steve carried with him on his final journey.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe weren\u2019t supposed to get caught. We weren\u2019t supposed to get caught,\u201d Ian Singh, Director of The Abbotsford Sikh Society, said. \u201cWe were not supposed to be here.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSteve\u2019s death was totally avoidable. There were many people that could have avoided it. There were many people that had a responsibility,\u201d Ian said.<\/p>\n

In the end, it was Steve\u2019s message that sticks out the most.<\/p>\n

Ian Singh says he will never forget that last message.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were trying to do something good, and we weren\u2019t doing it properly,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd we failed.\u201d<\/p>\n

The message his friend left behind was to be a better Sikh, and to make sure no one ever feels like they are being oppressed.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll lives matter,\u201d Ian said. \u201cAnd I wish that we would teach our young people that \u2013 because I fear that we have gone away from that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now that he is gone, there is no stopping the fight for change and acceptance.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur society is not perfect, but I think we are making progress. And I think that\u2019s what Steve would want. He would want to be part of that movement,\u201d Ian said. \u201cHe would want us to keep moving forward.\u201d<\/p>\n
