STOCKHOLM – Union members in southern Sweden have begun setting up a self-help network against employers’ demands for further wage cuts, following a strike that lasted three months and resulted in the loss of 700 jobs.<\/p>\n

The number of people who have joined the network, called “Swedish Confederation of Trade Unions for the Self-Employed” (TUKFED), increased from 15,000 in October to 31,000 in December and is likely to rise, TUKFED deputy general secretary Marcus Hellberg told Reuters.<\/p>\n

Hellberg said: “We are now able to get more people who have had difficulties with their employers, some of them with very bad situations.<\/p>\n

“The aim is to give them support, to help them, to give them advice, to give them contacts, and eventually to find work for them.”<\/p>\n

Hellberg said the network had grown mainly in the Stockholm area, but had also spread to southern parts of the country, with the exception of Gothenburg.<\/p>\n

He added that it was important to strike while the numbers were at their highest.<\/p>\n

TUKFED had over 1.6 million members in the trade union movement in Sweden at the end of 2007, while the Swedish Confederation of Professional Employees (KAS) had about 4.4 million members at the end of December, and the Public Service union had about 300,000.<\/p>\n

Officials said both Michael and Michelle Crump were shot in the face and killed. Michelle Crump’s body was found submerged in a drainage ditch near the 6600 block of Royal Pines Drive while Aisha’s body was found near the parking lot of the Broadview Pointe complex in Cheverly, police said.<\/p>\n

Crump, who lived on the 3300 block of East Randolph Street, was reported missing from her home at 3:52 a.m. on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Michael Crump was arrested at the crime scene at 7:45 a.m. Friday,<\/p>\n
