Long before planets formed in the solar system, \uc218\uc6d0\ucef4\ud4e8\ud130\uc218\ub9ac the Sun had rings, similar to those around Saturn, and they may have stopped Earth getting any bigger, study claims.<\/p>\n

These rings have been seen around a number of Sun-like young, distant stars, \uc218\uc6d0\ucef4\ud4e8\ud130\uc218\ub9ac<\/a> according to astronomers from\u00a0Rice University in Houston, .<\/p>\n

Made up of bands of dust and gas, they likely orbited the young Sun and played a role int he formation of the Earth, \uc218\uc6d0\ucef4\ud4e8\ud130\uc218\ub9ac potentially stopping it growing into a type of world known as a ‘Super Earth’ that has been found in 30 per cent of star systems.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘In the solar system, \uc218\uc6d0\ucef4\ud4e8\ud130\uc218\ub9ac something happened to prevent the Earth from growing to become a much larger type of terrestrial planet,’ said author Andr\u00e9 Izidoro.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Izidoro and colleagues used a supercomputer to simulate the solar system’s formation hundreds of times, to better understand how it came to be.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Their model produced rings and faithfully reproduced several features of the solar system missed by many previous models, but required rings around the young sun.<\/p>\n
