\nlfix 710 amy greenTUCSON, Ariz. \u2014 Dawn Turley pulled into a U-Store-It rental center near her home in Maricopa, Ariz. It was early in the morning on Aug. 30, 2011. As she waited, she told her husband, \u201cThis is what it\u2019s going to be like.\u201d<\/p>\n
It was an argument she had been having with her daughter, and she was about to get a reality check.<\/p>\n
\u201cHer daughter said, \u2018You\u2019re full of it. You\u2019re not going to the store,\u2019\u201d Turley said.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe was being a good daughter,\u201d Turley added. \u201cShe didn\u2019t want me to go.\u201d<\/p>\n
She pulled into a parking space, thinking she would be fine. But her daughter found her in the parking lot, admonishing her for leaving their home for the day.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe was so upset,\u201d Turley said. \u201c\u2018You\u2019re not going, I don\u2019t care if you are sick. You\u2019re not driving.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought, \u2018Oh, great. A three-hour trip that I took with my mom is going to have a really bad end.’\u201d<\/p>\n
What happened next stunned her. It was about 8:30 a.m., and the driver in the parking space behind her was a woman with Alzheimer\u2019s, Turley said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m going to give her money, and then she\u2019ll drive away,\u201d Turley remembers thinking. So she pulled out $15.<\/p>\n
But the woman never left. She got back into her vehicle and closed the door behind her. Turley said she was prepared to leave without giving the Alzheimer\u2019s patient the money and to abandon her car in the U-Store-It parking lot.<\/p>\n
\u201cI felt bad about that, but it would have been a good learning experience for myself,\u201d Turley said.<\/p>\n
With her mother still seated in the back seat, Turley reached into her wallet.<\/p>\n
