\nType in the spell checking dialog: to choose the dictionary. The oracle and deutsch will be shown.
\nWhen you entered the query strings, the built-in spell checker should be used. The suggestions shown will be displayed in the auto-complete tree.
\nWhen you double-clicked the spell checker window, the dictionary’s options should be available, for example: if you double-click the deutsch dictionary, it should open the dictionary settings for the deutsch dictionary.
\nWhen you see any “D” in the extensions window, the relevant dictionary should be embedded.

\nBe sure to download dictionary, hyphenation patterns and thesaurus, not just dictionary.

\nOpen OpenOffice.info and go to Extensions. Click on the + button in the upper left corner.
\nSelect “Add New” under Categories.
\nSelect “Add thesaurus” in the Category (to the right)
\nSelect “German” in the Language Category (to the left)
\nSelect “German dictionary” in the Extension, then click “OK”
\nFor dictionary or pattern, press the + button and select the dictionary or pattern you want. You might have to download it first.

\nYou’ll see the extension added to your OpenOffice: Tools -> Extension Manager -> Add-Ons…
\nIf you’re up to the “Check spelling” part, just select the hyphenation patterns you want to use, then press “Check”.
\nWhen you add the dictionary, it just asks you for a definition (this is for the dictionary search), then press the next button and just press “OK”.

\nThe dictionary integration is based on Google’s Poedit, which is open source and offers a lot of other useful tools as well. If the dictionary we use is no longer maintained, Google’s Poedit will be updated automatically. The integrated library of the dictionary is built from the files we need. If the.po extension is missing, Poedit will be used to get the needed information from an external dictionary that is placed in the directory “Language subdirectories\\en-US\\dictionaries”.
\nHyphenation is done with Text::Hyphen by Christoph H\ufffdhnerl. If a.fd extension is missing, it will be generated.
\nGerman spellchecking would be so hard, without such important dictionaries as the Duden (possibility of umlaut). This is the reason why I add the great thesaurus packages bj\ufffdrn Jacke provided (made with the Apache POI library) and the dictionaries from James B. Coughlan.
\nSpellchecking and hyphenation are done in a three step process.
\nIn a first step, all the “basic” vocabulary for English or German is checked. This is done with the English or German dictionary (which can have their default language set to English or German).
\nThe next step is done with thesaurus (from POI) and looks for “Composite” words.
