\nThe default settings are to convert the ANSI stream to OEM (e.g. Windows-1252) or any codepage stream to Unicode, or vice versa. As Unicode is a 16-bit application and the default setting is to convert from Unicode to a 16-bit Unicode stream. You can also select to convert from or to a specific OEM codepage or codepage stream. If your computer is in a different codepage than the default you can either select to output the codepage stream to a specified codepage, or specify a file name for that specific codepage stream.

\nThere are three ways to use the TXTCNV application:

\nIn a command shell create a new text file with the TXTCNV application.
\nStart the program with the application name and optional options.
\nThe application reads a file as input and converts it to be suitable for output.

\nConverting from OEM to ANSI is not possible.
\nIf a default codepage is not provided then the current operating system codepage is used to read input and to write output.

\n2. Via Windows GUI:
\nIn the Windows GUI (Menu \u2192 TXTCNV) use the Export or Save dialog box to save a text file containing the output, or when changing the input file use the Open dialog to import the input file into the TXTCNV application.
\n3. Via web GUI:
\nThe TXTCNV web GUI supports most of the functionality of the Windows GUI, but it also has an Open dialog box where you can browse to select a text file to open and to export the contents to a new file.
\nYou can also export the contents of a TXTCNV application web page to a TXTCNV application text file using the web GUI.
\nA graphical user interface is planned for TXTCNV 2.0. The TXTCNV web GUI will be redesigned to use the new GUI.
