Hundreds of thousands of learner drivers are waiting up to 24 weeks to take their test in some parts of the UK due to a backlog caused<\/a> by the pandemic.<\/p>\n

Driving tests were prohibited<\/a> for 12 months as part of the Government’s response to prevent the spread of Covid and only resumed in April this year.<\/p>\n

As a result, thousands of drivers were left unable to take their test, creating a backlog which now means some learners are waiting months for a slot.<\/p>\n

There are currently just more than 500,000 learners waiting to take a test with an average waiting time of 14 weeks, the DVSA said, but with some being handed a slot that is up to 24 weeks away.<\/p>\n
