{"id":372400,"date":"2022-01-10T09:38:30","date_gmt":"2022-01-10T09:38:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/yorunoteiou.com\/?p=372400"},"modified":"2022-01-10T09:38:30","modified_gmt":"2022-01-10T09:38:30","slug":"forex-fed-fueled-dollar-forces-rival-currencies-onto-back-foot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/yorunoteiou.com\/?p=372400","title":{"rendered":"FOREX-Fed-fueled dollar forces rival currencies onto back foot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Julien Ponthus<\/p>\n<p>LONDON, June 18 (Reuters) &#8211; The dollar was headed for its best week in nearly nine months on Friday, with rival currencies struggling to shake the pressure exerted by the Federal Reserve&#8217;s sudden hawkish shift in tone.<\/p>\n<p>With investors also scrambling to price in a sooner-than-expected tapering of extraordinary U.S.monetary stimulus, the euro and the yen failed to recoup losses of the last two days.<\/p>\n<p>Hovering around $1.19, the euro was flat against the dollar and on course for its worse week since October with a 1.6% fall.<\/p>\n<p>With a dovish European Central Bank seemingly far behind the Fed in the monetary policy cycle, traders will be reluctant to buy euros against dollars.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The U.S. central bank is one step ahead and as a result USD is likely to remain well supported against the EUR,&#8221; Commerzbank strategists said in their Daily Currency Briefing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As no important data is due for publication today or at the start of next week, the FX market is likely to feel mainly the after-effects of the Fed meeting,&#8221; they added.<\/p>\n<p>With investors busy closing short positions since the Fed meeting, the dollar index hit a more than two-month high of 92.010, and is on track for a 1.6% weekly gain, its largest since September.<\/p>\n<p>At 0810 GMT, the dollar index was up 0.01% at 91.887.<\/p>\n<p>The greenback is also on track for a 0.4% rise against the yen, which sat at 110.02 per dollar after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/search\/site\/hitting\">hitting<\/a> an 11-week low of 110.82.It was little moved by the Bank of Japan keeping its main policy settings steady, as expected.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile the Australian dollar struck its lowest since December at $0.7508 and the Kiwi fell to its weakest since April at $0.6982, defying eye-popping reports on Australian jobs and New Zealand growth this week.<\/p>\n<p>Sterling fell 0.24% to $1.3894 and was headed <a href=\"https:\/\/go.binaryoption.ae\/aSWj1L\">binary options exponential moving average rainbow strategy for greatest<\/a> a weekly loss of 1.5%.<\/p>\n<p>The shakeout on foreign exchanges has been triggered by Fed forecasts, or &#8216;dot plots,&#8217; showing 13 of the 18<a href=\"https:\/\/search.un.org\/results.php?query=-person%20policy\">-person policy<\/a> board saw rates rising in 2023, versus only six previously, with the median board member tipping two hikes in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>While the plots are not commitments and have a poor track record of predicting rates, the sudden shift was a shock that has also reverberated through the bond market and metal prices.<\/p>\n<p>(Reporting by Julien Ponthus and Tom Westbrook; Editing by Christopher Cushing; Gerry Doyle and Alexander Smith)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- ad: website --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Julien Ponthus LONDON, June 18 (Reuters) &#8211; The dollar was headed for its best\u2026","protected":false},"author":115362,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_s2mail":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/yorunoteiou.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/372400"}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/yorunoteiou.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/yorunoteiou.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/yorunoteiou.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/115362"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/yorunoteiou.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=372400"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"http:\/\/yorunoteiou.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/372400\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":372401,"href":"http:\/\/yorunoteiou.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/372400\/revisions\/372401"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/yorunoteiou.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=372400"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/yorunoteiou.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=372400"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/yorunoteiou.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=372400"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
